Ancient Symbols, Modern Tattoos: Sak Yant Tattoos by Pong - Authent/Ink
Before we start this article, there’s a few things to know beforehand:

Sak Yant refers to the sacred tattooing practice originating in Southeast Asia, most notably Thailand.
The word Sak Yant can be broken down into two:
Sak สัก = To tattoo
Yant ยันต์ = Yantra, which is sacred geometric design used in Buddhism

Sak Yant tattoos are a deeply spiritual practice which can grant the wearer protection, good luck, happiness, etc. Depending on the design.

Traditionally, Sak Yant is done by monks called Ajarns who hand poke these prayers and bless the tattoo to imbue its power into the wearer.

Pong in action

Here at Authentink, our Thai artist Pong brings a modern interpretation of Sak Yant to life. Utilising tattoo machines instead of the traditional metal rod, while still honouring the rich symbolism and intention behind each design. His work pays homage to the original forms, preserving the geometric precision, ancient script, and symbolic meanings of the patterns in a way that is accessible for people who are unable to travel to Thailand but still wants to connect with the philosophy and practice of Sak Yant.
