AUGUST LOOKBOOK - Authent/Ink

During this last month we’ve had quite a bit going on in Authentink Studio! Here’s a little peek into the every-day life of our artists, featuring tattoos they’ve completed, a few Studio-wide shots, and activities done in their spare time.

Featured above is senior artist Max Lofty alongside Crimge Tattoo, who guested with us briefly throughout August while staying in Sydney.

Steph’s traditional Japanese tebori backpiece began as a nukibori, which she sported for years before coming around to the idea of a full backpiece with background. This marks the end of that page in her tattooing journey with Horisumi!

Joey’s double sleeves, featuring a dragon on one arm and phoenix on the other, have also been recently completed! Machine linework and tebori shading, these colourful, bold sleeves are made to last.

Here Max has put his sketchbook to the test, using a pen machine to render a fierce warrior across the page.

Skeleton, tree and cat back piece, tattooed by Max. His crisp, clean linework and sketch-style shading make this tattoo memorable!

In contrast to the previous tattoo, Max has employed a softer, more subtle style of shading to draw attention to the patterns in the plates.

A sleeve in the making! Koi, dragon and background in the linework stage. Tattooed by Ian.

Speaking of koi fish, here’s Pong working with similar material on his own client. We weren’t able to grab any pictures at the end of the day, so keep an eye out for further progress pictures.

This time we were able to grab some pictures! Mandala and peony across the shoulder and upper arm by Pong.

Here, Min is filling in the flowers for this otherwise black and gray phoenix sleeve. His client is taking it like a champ!

Angel and Stitch as embroidery patches down the inner forearm, also done by Min. Bright and colourful, solid work as always.

Now onto some fine line! Bonzai took on four matching ‘Made in Australia’ tattoos for a group of lads, the first tattoo for one of them. An iconic choice to say the least.

Of course, some classic designs–butterfly, flowers, hearts. Beautiful and dainty, and complementing the shape of the body well.

Bird and background in the ink brush style by James. In his style, James has made a popular subject choice into something unique and eye-catching.

Our newest apprentice has been busy! The crocodile, ram, and stylised arrow are only a few of the tattoos tackled this month, but they’re a good show of Kaede’s skills and style. As the owner of the crocodile tattoo, I can confidently report that Kaede has incredible bedside manner. And, importantly, once Kaede rescued my younger brother from the top floor of a burning building. I’ve also seen Kaede in the streets, luring cats down from the branches of tall trees. If you need a shoulder to cry on and a really awesome tattoo, Kaede is perfect.

Yayoi did a whole heap of tattoos this month, but forgot to take many pictures.  Still, the one picture we did get is of a pretty fun, cute tattoo, a face made up of Japanese characters.

Though we previously made a post highlighting Shin’s work, it never hurts to show off the fruits of your labour. Shin’s skilled in a number of styles, including fineline, realism, and American traditional.

The following black and grey sleeve completed by Kai is the star of this post. There are so many different faces to this one, it’s hard to get them all down–only time spent looking and taking it in will do it any justice. Thanks to Cassian for the trust!

That’s all for this month! For the last month of the quiet season, we haven’t done too badly for ourselves. As the weather warms up and more clients come in to prepare for their best summer look, it’s only going to get more interesting. Stay tuned to see what we’ve got in store next month!
