Today apprentice Kaede is taking on a big project, a colourful custom peacock for our friend Grimm. This tattoo is going on the back of the right calf, and measures out to about 22cm. Luckily we’ve been able to grab pictures at every stage of the tattooing process, have a peek below!

Isn’t it beautiful! The combination of bright colours, patterns along the body and atop the head and the focused gaze of the peacock make it a memorable and unique design.

The morning began with an attempt at stencilling that didn’t quite fit right. Afterwards, they took the stencilling to the stairs.

This change of scenery helped Kaede see the stencil at eye level, and made the whole process go smoother.

First peek at the stencil on skin! Correcting some of the lines with a stencil pen.

After much deliberation, the final placement.

Once the stencil had some time to dry and Kaede’s session was set up, they got right into the outlining. Grimm, very brave, sat very well!

With the black all done in the first half of the day, it’s time to set up for the bit that’ll bring the tattoo to life: colour!

Shoutout to Bonzai for lending a few of his colours.

This part takes a while, as certain shades are made by mixing different inks together. Kaede’s got a line-up of 13 different colours for this tattoo.

Annnnnnd, here’s the completed tattoo!

It took a full day but it’s finally done, and it came out incredible. Grimm was so brave and sat like a rock–thanks to Grimm for the trust!
