Back in 2025, Horisumi finished up long-time friend and client Roel’s snake arm sleeves.

Before that, they worked tirelessly at Roel’s backpiece, depicting the Japanese god of war Bishamonten in battle . In one hand he clutches a spear, and in the other a pagoda, symbolising the shrines that he is a protector to.

After the completion of Roel’s sleeves, Horisumi also touched up some of the colours on Roel’s backpiece–can you spot where?

Now in 2026, they’re finally getting started on Roel’s chest piece. The figure taking centre stage for this project is the Japanese goddess Benzaiten, patroness of speeches, the arts, and learning.

The stencil and freehand line work is to be followed by tebori shading in the coming months. Here are some progress shorts!
